Hailing from Aotearoa New Zealand, Pete McKenzie is a freelance journalist who specialises in power, politics and the environment in the Pacific.

He writes for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, and National Geographic,  among others.

In 2024, he was a finalist for the Livingston Award for International Reporting. In 2023, he was named Reporter of the Year at New Zealand’s annual Voyager Media Awards.
